it takes aloth a while to see it because he admired pike too much and thought too little of himself to think there could be something there yk. aloth was his first friend hes loved him for a long time. they both helped each other come to terms with the unfairness in how their parents treated them because they both blamed themselves for the abuse but were able to see it for what it was in the othes’ situation. Pikes very kind and his morality is centered on self reliance and defiance against powers that be and he prioritizes the underdog which aloth thinks is really admirable. so hes doing things like breaking Galawain’s Triassic Period Fauna Creating Machine with a sledgehammer and making the underwater chamber theyre in flood with giant squid but he has a really pleasant attitude about it so aloths like “well at least hes not getting us into arguments” because aloths social anxiety outweighs his anxiety about being eaten by a big shark not like aloth who is just afraid to speak his mind. pikes very cordial and pleasant with just about everyone to avoid conflict not out of insecurity but more in like a….”its easier to work things out in your favor if no one realizes you dont agree with them” kind of way. he acts or SEEMS to act without thinking sometimes which aloth gives him a hard time about (like in poe1 where you can waltz into the leaden key hideout and get that leaden key initiate to lend you his hood? he never got over that he brings it up all the time). His dynamic with aloth is funny because he does a lot of reckless stuff that makes aloth freak out (ESPECIALLY in the second game because he’s bullheaded in retaliating against the gods) but stuff tends to work out for them even if they both end up with their eyebrows burned off due to his stunts. he also did a lot of reading before freeing himself so he’s very knowledgable book-wise and persuasive due to his cipher abilities but not especially street smart since he hadn’t spent much time outside. he scavenged for a while before ending up on the caravan. hes a cipher but his abilities slipped under the radar because the guy tended to write him off as not so smart so i decided he made the guy he was indentured to forget about him before escaping not too long before the start of PoE1. YES OK theyre both from aedyr, opposite ends of society though since aloth grew up in high society and pike had very poor parents who sold him to work for a wizard to pay off their debts.
